Dr. Martens is a cardiologist specialising in electrophysiology and his research group focuses on cardiac electrics and AI-based risk predictors for sudden cardiac death. Technically, the focus of his research group is on the integration of medical devices into interoperable database systems as well as telemedical patient care, especially with mobile sensor technology. The focus in all projects is on the integration of raw biosignal data and their analysis.

As part of his work at Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Mr Martens planned and launched an interoperable platform with broad integration into the hospital information system for cardiology. As part of the German Hospital Future Act, this platform is now being rolled out across the hospital for image and structured findings integration of medical devices. Various publications on AI-supported algorithms or clinical questions have already been published on the basis of the new storage system.
